This is it. The beginning of new adventures. I have been planning this for a long time. But one thing I have learned over the last three years is make plans but be ready to change them. Things happen. Be adaptable. Be patient. Be kind.
I had originally thought about retiring a few years ago. But then Covid happened. In addition, I had things I wanted to get done in my career. So I kept working. No regrets.
But I also had a few health issues that I needed to address. I had always felt somewhat invincible. Skiing, climbing, kayaking, biking, triathlons. Then I blew out my knee and back while skiing fast during a whiteout, flying off a drop and pancaking. Just as I was getting stronger from that incident, to my great surprise, I had a stroke. What the hell! Fortunately it was not a bad one, and I am now mostly recovered. But shortly after the stroke, my hip fell apart and I replaced it last year. Now I am feeling strong and healthy again and ready to go.
The plans for the first leg of this new journey are, first, to head out to Utah to visit our son, Zachary, and his partner, Jenna, and to go to a couple concerts (Buddy Guy and Herbie Hancock). Hopefully our other son, Matt, will be able to join us. Then I will start driving through northern Mexico heading towards my friend who lives just east of Mexico City. The route will likely take me through Chihuahua City, Saltillo, and San Miguel de Allende. Unfortunately, my beautiful and gracious wife, Sheri, will not be coming along for the first leg. She is helping with our grandson, Henry, and with her father and step-mother preparing to move. She is a great sport to encourage me to travel despite being unable to accompany me.
The goal of this blog is to keep track of the people and places we meet as we move through this earth. The blog is mostly for ourselves, and to help friends and family keep track of us. We will also do a few posts looking back on some of our previous adventures.

Hope you have a safe trip to Salt Lake: step 1! Good to see you both yesterday. Great pic of you on your day 1 blog. Keep at it!! We'll follow you.
