Discover the mysteries of the Black Forest

On its some 30,000 km of densely wooded, marked hiking trails you will begin in the northern most point of the Black Forest, in Germany’s most exclusive spa resort, Baden-Baden. Here we explore both the nature and the comforts of this beautiful town, including the modern and unique Caracalla Baths, with their thermal springs. We then travel via the "Schwarzwaldhochstrasse", or "Black Forest High Road" where we pass through a nature reserve of Germany's tallest fir trees (and sample some authentic Black Forest cake along the way!)..

Our next stop is Triberg, the middle of the Black Forest and the cuckoo clock capital. These clocks are also a highlight of the Black Forest and you will know all about them (perhaps carry one home!) before your visit is completed. You will also sample the well known culinary delights of the region - fresh trout, locally caught game and fowl. We are, after all, skirting the French border in the Black Forest, and the influence in the cuisine is quite apparant. Here we will also visit an open-air museum which shows us all about the architecture and culture of the Black Forest.

Saving the best for last, we end up in a mountainous region of the southern Black Forest, just outside of Freiburg. In this area we walk along mountain ridges with incredible views of the Alps of Germany, France and Switzerland.

Areas visited include:

Baden-Baden
Germany's famous and luxurious health resort with world class thermal baths

Triberg
Site of Germany's highest waterfall
Center for the craft of cuckoo clock making and a favorite spa resort

Feldberg
Highest point in the Black Forest (5000 ft.)

Freiburg
One of the most attractive cities in southern Germany, full of historical monuments and rich medieval culture
