| Discover the beauty and castles of Bavaria Germany's highest peak, the Zugspitze (9,782 ft), is the backdrop of this tour through alpine meadows full of colorful wildflowers, romantic castles, pristine lakes, streams and waterfalls. We hike along Bavaria's extensive network of marked hiking trails (moderate difficulty). Ski lift, cable cars, and cog-wheel trains available for those undesirable ascents and descents. Füssen and Garmisch are both Spa resorts with modern wellness facilities. Areas visited: Garmisch-Partenkirchen Summer wellness and Winter ski resort; site of the 4th Winter Olympics in 1936. Oberammergau Home to the world famous "Passion Play", where we tour the theater. The house paintings (Lüftmalereien) and artistic wood carvings are an additional highlight. Füssen Site of the famous "Neuschwanstein" castle, built by Ludwig II of Bavaria and Hohenschwangau, less famous, but no less worth seeing. Wieskirche A gem of a rococo church from the 18th century. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site full of beautiful frescos and baroque ornamentation. Schloss Linderhof This castle, a miniature "Versailles", was completed in 1878, and although the smallest built by Ludwig II, is perhaps his most beautiful. |
