''Alsace, what a beautiful garden" said Louis the XIV upon first viewing the hills of Alsace in 17th century France. Since that time it’s become so much more: A region known for its wine (boasting one of the world’s finest whites), gastronomy, beautiful scenery and historical depth. Having changed its nationality between Germany and France four times between 1870 and 1945, one still tends to forget which country one is in. Combine all this with the natural beauty of the Vosges nature reserve with its 11,000 miles of marked hiking trails and we are in a walker’s paradise.  One cannot, however, forget Alsace’s capital,  Strasbourg, where we begin our tour and Colmar, a gem of a city known as "little Venice" with its canals and medieval monuments.
